• Full name: “Graphics Interchange Format”

• Pronounced: Hard or soft “G”, the debate. Technically, you can pronounce it either way. The originator (Steve Wilhite) pronounced it with a soft “G”, like “George”. However, over time, others started calling it with a hard “G”, like “goat”. You can choose, but if you ever come across a hardcore purist, you may want to just nod your head and agree knowing they’re not wrong, but of course you’re more right! (smirk)

• For What: Used for pixel-based images that have a limited colour palette (such as a logo, for example). Be sure to compare the results with PNG to decide which will produce the smaller file size.

• Where to Use: Websites or social media.

• Colour Profile: RGB.

• Transparency: Is possible.

• Animation: Is possible and is really, in my opinion, the only reason to use a GIF.
