9 art boxes—soon there will be 15 more!

What a great way to turn a utility thing into an experience.

The art I created for 11 utility boxes in 2019 got a huge number of compliments, even from the mayor’s office! And I continue to hear from delighted people who enjoy the colours and expressions even now, years later. In fact, it was so well received, I was asked to create more!

I took inspiration from Vietnamese colour symbolism for this box sitting by Pho Bowl. Blue is a symbol for calm, and red is for luck and happiness.

Strada is a wonderful spot for casual Italian food that comforts. The red they use for their menus and decor are used here as a tribute.

I have a soft spot for Japan, so it was a joy to add a touch of Shoji screen and red colours to this utility box. There’s even a bit of a swoosh added as a tribute to Wind’s wonderful ceiling treatment.

I finally tried the wonderful ice cream at Rollz Up—if you haven’t already, do try their yummy treats!! It will be sure to melt your heart as much as it slides down your chin.

For those who venture into this store that offers personal adventures, you get a look of shock and one of “Well alright, then!” Fun is sure to happen after a visit here!

I will admit to bringing in a touch of my son’s work here. In the background is a photo of a road in Parry Sound where rocks abound. For me, it was perfect, in my opinion, for this utility box located by Midas where travel is made safer every day.
